SCA elementary robotics team celebrates win

December 31, 2013

The Summit Christian Academy FIRST Lego League robotics teams held their own in the KC FIRST qualifying competition at Bingham Middle School.

The Shockwave and Robowarriors , consisting of fifth- and sixth-grade students, competed against 41 other teams from around the Kansas City metro area.

Shockwave, coached by SCA Dad Ryan Harger, won the Project Award for Innovative Solution and will move on to the Kansas City Regional Competition Jan. 18 at Union Station.

RoboWarriors placed fourth in the robot competition.

The theme for this year’s competition was Nature’s Fury and the teams explored what can be done when intense natural events meet the places people live, work, and play.

Shockwave’s winning solution was to develop a line of wearable items, such as necklaces, wristbands, belt buckles that notify deaf and hard of hearing individuals when a warning has been sounded.
