LS driver suffers serious injuries in New Year’s Day accident

A Lee’s Summit teenager was taken to an area hospital in serious condition after a New Year’s Day accident on U.S. 50 near Lone Jack.

According to an incident report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jacob L. Ellis, 19, of Lee’s Summit, was westbound in a Suburban close to 4:15 a.m. Jan. 1 when the vehicle went off the right side of the road west of Outer Belt Road. The truck hit an embankment, went airborne and flipped multiple times before striking a fence.

Ellis, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to an area hospital by the Lone Jack Fire Department.
