BCMS students take career- and college-readiness field trip to MCC-Longview

January 8, 2014

A group of students from each Lee’s Summit R-7 middle school visited MCC- Longview for a career- and college-readiness field trip Dec. 9.

Students attending were from Bernard Campbell, Pleasant Lea and Summit Lakes Middle Schools. They were greeted by Kirk Nooks, president of the community college. They also toured the Longview facilities and played a board game designed to help them understand financial aid and the cost of a college education.

The middle-school students were selected to attend based on their responses and results on the EXPLORE test, which was administered in October.

Students were led by a group of peer ambassadors from Longview Community College. The peer ambassadors also served as a panel for a question-and-answer session, explaining about the A+ Program, the path leading them to Longview and the level of satisfaction they have had at the community college.
