Lee’s Summit woman killed by train near Pleasant Hill

Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies have identified the body found near a set of Union Pacific railroad tracks in northwest Pleasant Hill as 42-year-old Mindi Smith, Lee’s Summit.

The woman’s body was found along the Katy Trail path near the area of E. 175th Street and S. Boardman Rd .on Jan. 9.

A railroad company noticed the body and alerted authorities.

Deputies said Smith was hit by a train. Evidence from the scene suggested that the victim was hit within 24 hours before she was found.

Investigators have not determined an exact reason why Smith was on the railroad tracks, but have ruled out foul play as a cause.
