Parent University offers assistance for parents

January 15, 2014

Do you have kids age 6 or younger? Don’t miss the 11th Annual Parent University from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 22 at Paradise Park, 1021 Colbern Road in Lee’s Summit.

Workshops led by child development experts include Practical Parenting Techniques for the Early Childhood Years; Rituals, Routines and Relationship Building; Sensory Processing Development and Strategies; and Music as a Teaching Tool.

This year’s featured speaker, Brad Mears, will provide a fun and informative keynote on Introduction to the Brain of a Child. Recognized globally, Mears is a researcher, professor and program director at the University of Central Missouri.

Cost for Parent University is $10 per adult and $10 per child.

Childcare is available onsite for potty-trained children from age 3 through 12 through Paradise Park’s Edutainment Center. Snacks are provided, and scholarships are available.

Parent University is a public service for the community and is organized by Lee’s Summit CARES in partnership with Paradise Park, the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, ReDiscover and the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

Visit www.lscares.org for more information, online registration and complete workshop details. You may also contact the Parent University hot line at (816) 581-5803.

Parents are encouraged to pre-register their children to ensure space. Payment for childcare will be collected on event day.
