R-7 elementary schools launch improved webpages

January 15, 2014

Lee’s Summit R-7 families are now able to access information more easily about their children’s elementary schools. All 18 R-7 elementary schools, as well as Great Beginnings Early Education Center and Miller Park Center, are launched improved webpages Jan. 6, just in time for the first day of second semester.

All elementary schools’ webpage addresses are changing with the upgrade although the old address will link to the new pages for some time. New web addresses for each school are also consistent with the district website and include the school’s three-letter abbreviation, followed by “.lsr7.org.”

For example, Lee’s Summit Elementary’s new webpage is located at “lse.lsr7.org.”

The enhanced webpages provide a consistent design and professional format for the schools with several new features added to each school’s site. Within the top toolbars, each webpage includes links to many of the most popular Lee’s Summit R-7 webpages, such as R-7 Before- and After-School Services, the district’s home page, the school’s library media center, R-7 Nutrition Services and R-7 Transportation Department.

A new feature within the webpages is a school calendar that provides families with the option of importing school dates into their personal calendar. Also new for most of the school sites are pages featuring the school’s history and a FAQ (frequently asked questions) page.

Each school webpage also has a link to an improved staff page with photographs of all staff members as well as links to the employee’s e-mail and to teacher webpages. Pages of schools using social media to communicate with parents offer links to the school’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Informational flyers provided for parents have been reorganized on the webpages and are now categorized so that they are easier for parents to review. The flyers, as well as all aspects of the webpages, may be accessed from mobile devices.

The new webpages were built from the ground up and are designed so that users may access any page within two clicks or less, creating a more user-friendly format.

Although the new webpages were created with a focus on consistency across all sites, each school’s webpage has its own unique identity with school mascots, school colors and school photographs incorporated throughout the pages.

The new webpages were designed by Rusty Richards, Lee’s Summit R-7 applications specialist, with substantial input from staff members at each school as well as assistance from Paula Kelly, R-7 applications specialist, and Diane Shireman, R-7 applications support.
