Unity Institute Student Association celebrates MLK Day with annual event

January 22, 2014

Unity Institute Student hosted Jan.19-20 its 10th annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the Unity World Headquarters campus at Unity Village.

Rev. Michael Gott, assistant minister and choir director at Unity of Houston, Texas, was the scheduled performer Jan. 19 inside the Fillmore Chapel. Gott, who has an extensive background as a pianist, songwriter, and singer, is known as an entertaining and inspiring spiritual leader.

The concert also featured The Martin Luther King Community Choir, directed by Stephanie Bland.

Gott delivered Jan. 20 inside the Unity Inn dining and banquet hall “Up to the Mountain,” a special presentation inspired by King. The MLK Community Choir was scheduled to perform as well. The Inn served a “soul food” luncheon buffet.

The event will benefit the Unity Worldwide Ministries Dream Seed Scholarship Fund, which was created to send teenagers to the International Youth of Unity Conference.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must write and submit original essays inspired by King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
