Unity World Headquarters honored by Jackson County Historical Society

January 24, 2014

Unity World Headquarters was recently honored by the Jackson County Historical Society, grabbing the “Preserving Jackson County’s Iconic Structures Award” during the organization’s 55th annual awards program held at Unity Inn in Unity Village.

Unity was honored for its renovation and adaptive reuse of Unity Tower, a 165-foot tower built in 1929. The tower was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. After being shuttered for almost a decade, a multimillion dollar restoration project brought Unity Tower back to life in 2013.

It now houses Awaken Whole Life Center, a full-service spiritual spa that was recently listed at No. 69 on Spas of America’s “Top 100 Spas of 2013” list.

The award will be presented to Charlotte Shelton, president and CEO of Unity World Headquarters, at the Preserve Missouri annual awards dinner in Jefferson City in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda March 6.
