It’s been nearly four years since the Lees Summit Police Department has investigated a homicide, but detectives are looking into an overnight shooting early Saturday morning that left one man dead and another man in custody.
According to Lee’s Summit Police, at approximately 2:00 a.m. Feb. 1 officers were called to the 600 block of N.E. Meadow Lane on a disturbance in the front yard of a home.
The area is near N.E. Chipman Rd. and N.E. Douglas St. where Meadow Lane intersects with N.E. Maggie Ave.
Prior to police arrival the call escalated into an armed disturbance and a shooting. When units arrived, the found a single victim located in the front yard of the home.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect surrendered to police without incident, police officials said.
The victim, a male in his 30s was known to the suspect, but police are still conducting interviews to determine the relationships between everyone involved.
The suspect, a male in his 40s, is in police custody and the investigation into the incident continues.
