Dave McQueen is new sports editor

Lee's Summit JournalFebruary 7, 2014

The Lee’s Summit Journal added Dave McQueen as the sports editor. Dave will oversee all the sports coverage and what goes into the sports section.

Previous to the Journal he spent almost 11 years as a sports copy editor at The Kansas City Star. In 2010, he decided to try his hand at teaching. McQueen went back to school to get certified to teach high school English and Journalism, but ultimately decided that wasn’t what he wanted to do.

Dave received his Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Kansas. Besides The Star, he has also worked at The Des Moines Register, The Independence Examiner, The Dodge City Daily Globe, The Hutchinson News and The Atchison Daily Globe as a sports writer, sports editor, or both. McQueen has been writing sports for more than 30 years.

He was born and raised in Topeka and has lived in Lee’s Summit for 13 years.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity because it gets me back to what I always enjoyed doing – getting out to the games and finding good stories,” Dave said. “As a desk editor for many years, I really grew to miss being out in the action, especially on football Friday nights. And to do that in the community where I live – one that I’ve really grown fond of over the years – makes it all the better.”
