Polar Plunge raises big funds

The Special Olympics Polar Plunge raised at least $291,821.

On Jan. 25, 1,104 participants ran through Longview Lake with water temperature of 34 degrees and the air at only 40 degrees.

The annual event is sponsored by Lee’s Summit, Belton and Kansas City Police. The top fund-raising law enforcement team was Kansas City with $26,687 and the top school team was Belton schools with $20,672.

Fund-raising websites created for the event remain active through April to receive additional donations, which also can be made by check or money orders (payable to SOMO) sent to: SOMO, Attn: KC Metro Plunge, 9001 W 67 Street, Merriam, KS 66202.
