Lee’s Summit man pleads in sex case

March 4, 2014

A Lee’s Summit man entered a guilty plea in a sex case that involved a 13-year-old girl.

Codey J. Everhart, 22, pleaded guilty Feb. 28 to first degree statutory sodomy. As part of a plea agreement he was sentenced to 12 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

The other two counts of forcible rape and statutory rape originally filed against Everhart were dismissed.

According to court records, a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a Lake Lotawana home last August where the victim reported she had been raped by Everhart, a neighbor.

After she let him into her home to use the restroom, she told police, he grabbed her and threw her down and had sexual intercourse with her against her will. She struggled until she got away, hid and later ran to a friend’s house, she said.

The defendant sent the victim’s mother a text message saying he was sorry. He told police he went to the home with the intention of having physical contact but said he didn’t have full sexual intercourse with her.
