Bernard Campbell Middle School Special Olympian shares his story

March 5, 2014

Andrew Hirt, a student at Bernard Campbell Middle School, recently shared his story about being a Special Olympian during his speech class. He is pictured with Heather Stout (left), BCMS paraprofessional; School Resource Officer Amanda Geno; and speech teacher Cheri Buie (right).

Andrew’s speech follows. “I chose Special Olympics, because it’s important to me and I am a Special Olympics athlete. There are 16,713 athletes in the state of Missouri. There are 38 events in total for Special Olympics – I do five of them, and they are bowling, track and field, baseball, soccer and basketball. Here are the medals I have gotten from all my events. Special Olympics is cool because it is good exercise, fun and you can make lots of friends.”
