Alan Olivas of Lee’s Summit High School has been selected to take part in the 22nd annual Metro Classic Wrestling Dual.
Olivas, a senior, is one of 14 wrestlers selected for the Missouri team, which will go against a Kansas squad in a matchup of the best wrestlers from both sides of the state line in the Kansas City area. Olivas had a 42-8 record this season and finished sixth in the 126-pound division at Class 4 state meet in Columbia. Olivas will wrestle at 120 in the dual against Dante Roose of Sumner Academy, who finished 49-3 and won a state championship in Kansas.
The Metro Classic is set for 6:30 p.m. March 11 at Kansas City Kansas Community College. The event provides a venue for some of the top athletes in the Midwest and will be attended by more than 40 college coaches and annually draws crowds of more than 2,000. Proceeds from the dual go toward providing scholarships for wrestlers attending Central Missouri and Fort Hays State University in Kansas.
Discounted tickets for the Metro Classic are available at all three Raytown-Lee’s Summit Community Credit Union locations and at Jay Greco Farmer’s Insurance in Blue Springs.
