Lee’s Summit woman charged in accident involving child

March 10, 2014

Police have charged a Lee’s Summit woman with a variety of municipal charges after an infant child fell from a moving vehicle.

GiAnni L. Henderson, 30, of Lee’s Summit was charged in municipal court with a child restraint violation, failure to provide proof of insurance, license plate violation, child endangerment, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Henderson was the driver of a vehicle traveling east on Chipman Rd. onto the entrance ramp for the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 50 around 6:10 p.m. March 9 when a one-year-old child in the backseat of the vehicle fell out of the rear passenger door and onto the roadway.

A passing motorist immediately stopped and administered first aid until emergency crews arrived and the child was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

A second child was also in the backseat of the vehicle.

Investigators were able to determine that the child was not properly restrained while riding in the vehicle and that led to the child falling from the vehicle during a turn.

The one-year-old child has since been released from the hospital, police officials said.
