SLMS students capture awards in oration contest

March 11, 2014

Summit Lakes Middle School students captured awards in the school’s Feb. 28 oration contest, sponsored by the Lee’s Summit Evening Optimist Club.

Luke Swezy and Baylie Andersen were the top boy and girl winners and will represent SLMS at the next level. Other winners were Kate Warnick, second place, and MaKenzie Smiley, third place. Speeches focused on the theme “How My Passions Impact the World.”

Optimist judges look for content, enunciation, word choice and appearance. Students pictured are (from left) Luke Swezy, Baylie Andersen, Kate Warnick and MaKenzie Smiley.
