The Lee’s Summit Symphony’s March 8 Spring Classic Concert featured a line-up of beautiful music and an informative pre-concert lecture. Audience members packed the Lee’s Summit High School performing arts center March 8 for musical selections by composers such as Antonin Dvorak, Claude DeBussy, R. Vaughan Williams and Jacques Offenbach.
The Lee’s Summit Symphony is in its 11th year and is conducted by Russell E. Berlin. The event included a pre-concert lecture by Dr. Les Brothers who discussed important features of each piece.
The concert also included a food collection through Orchestras Feeding America with 140 pounds of non-perishable food donated to Harvesters.
The Symphony’s 2014-15 season will conclude with a special concert involving students from throughout the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Lee’s Summit Symphony Showcase will be presented at 3 p.m. May 25 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City. The concert will include student musicians from the Lee’s Summit High School, Lee’s Summit North High School and Lee’s Summit West High School orchestras. Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit is the exclusive business sponsor for this event.
Additional funding for the Lee’s Summit Symphony Showcase has been provided by the Truman-Heartland Community Foundation and the Missouri Arts Council. Lee’s Summit Arts Council and the Martha Lee Cain Tranby Enrichment Foundation have also provided funding for special projects this season.
