Last week, in a Letter to the Editor, a fellow from Lee’s Summit complained about pending Missouri legislation that will extend the pre-abortion waiting period to three days. The bill is now before the Missouri Senate for debate. This man’s displeasure is apparently based on the idea that an expectant mother should not consider the long-term effects of ending the life of her own child. He also bemoans the inconvenience of driving a few hours to abort a human life. Perhaps he would feel better if we had an abortion clinic on every street corner. He also suggested that Republicans are sickening because (as unbelievable as it may sound) they want the mother to fully understand the consequences of the procedure; to fully consider the life she would be ending. To paraphrase, let’s call this 72-hour waiting period what it is – an honest attempt to help a mom make the right decision and give her gift from God a wonderful life.
