Lee’s Summit police continue to investigate shooting incident on I-470

March 20, 2014

Lee’s Summit police continue to investigate a shooting incident that may or may not have ties to a similar incident the same day in Blue Springs.

Lee’s Summit Police Department Sgt. Chris Depue said at approximately 8:35 p.m. March 18 officers were called to the area of Interstate 470 and Colbern Road to contact a victim who believed his vehicle had been shot.

Investigators checked the vehicle and located a single bullet hole in the back portion of the vehicle, but the victim had no injuries and was not struck by the bullet.

Detectives continue to work with the victim to develop a suspect description.

Police are asking that anyone who may have been in the area at that time and may have information to contact the LSPD.

Investigators with Lee’s Summit are also working with detectives from the Blue Springs Police Department to determine if a shooting in their jurisdiction earlier in the evening is related, Depue said.

In addition, members of the police department conducted an evidence search along I-470 north of Colbern Road March 20. Officers shut down and slowed traffic on southbound I-470 to complete the search. The duration of the search was unknown before the Journal went to press, but was expected to last less than one hour.
