Park University freshman Shae Boyd, a graduate of Lee’s Summit West High School, was selected American Midwest Conference Softball Player of the Week on March 17.
Boyd, an infielder, drove in 17 runs in 11 games, leading the Pirates to an 11-1 week including four conference wins. On the week, Boyd was 18-for-35 at the plate, hitting .514, with five doubles, two home runs and five walks. She was also two-for-three on the bases and scored 11 times in 11 games.
“Shae was clutch for us, and you don’t always expect that from a freshman,” said Park coach Amy Reif. “Shae isn’t playing like a freshman right now, though. We’re (20) games in and she is already playing like a veteran. We will need that as we get in to the conference schedule.”
Boyd started the season on a 15-game hitting streak and is currently batting a team-best .474 with an .807 slugging percentage. She has helped Park get off to a 18-2 start and 6-0 mark in conference play.
