Councilman supports ballot issue for our future

April 4, 2014

Dear Editor,

The vision I believe we all share for Lee’s Summit is a vibrant, engaged, and caring community. One where opportunities are available, commerce thrives, and safety is known. As we look forward, April 8 presents an opportunity for all of us to help improve that vision.

Question 1 on the ballot, with a ‘yes’ vote, will authorize the city to issue up to $10 million in general revenue bonds, with no tax increase. This is a project to be designed and constructed in conjunction with MoDOT, a great community partner. It will realign the access roads, provide better access to Downtown, and remove unsafe conditions for vehicles, commerce, and pedestrians (including the removal of a 50 year old, ‘serious’ condition bridge), and be replaced with a new, improved interchange designed to move people and vehicles safer and quicker.

It will greatly enhance the ability of residents in south Lee’s Summit to come north more efficiently. It will allow easier and safer movement through the intersection for all users. This improved interchange will also increase the opportunity for economic development and redevelopment to the south and north of 50 Highway. Increased economic activity can help broaden our commercial tax base. It will allow us to continue working to make possible, the creation of more jobs in our community, so that you can truly “Work, Eat, Shop, and Play,” all in Lee’s Summit.

Thanks for your consideration and support.

Rob Binney,

Lee’s Summit
