Students and staff members from Lee’s Summit West High School recently participated in Challenge Day, a national program designed to go beyond traditional anti-bullying efforts, build empathy and ignite a movement of compassion and positive change.

Held March 31, Challenge Day included an approximately six-hour program designed for 50 LSWHS students selected to participate. The day addressed common issues in schools nationwide such as cliques, gossip, rumors, negative judgments, teasing, harassment, isolation and stereotypes.

Through Challenge Day, students are encourages to help peers and family, connect and reach out to peers, give hugs, participate in community service, resolve conflict and take care of themselves.

Lee's Summit Journal is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
