LSNHS DECA members capture awards at State Career Development Conference

April 9, 2014

Students in the Lee’s Summit North High School chapter of Missouri DECA joined more than 1,700 high school marketing students at the annual state career development conference held March 16-18 at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark.

Students recognized included Jeremy Green and Jordan Barba, fourth place in financial literacy promotion plan; Becky Heine, sixth place in restaurant and food service management; Ryan Pederson, who received a medal in automotive services; Garrett Hughes, Julia Snook and Lauren O’Bryan, first place in public relations; and Justin Grimm, fourth place in principles of marketing.

These students were eligible to advance to international level competition at the International DECA Career Development Conference, scheduled for May 3 through 6 in Atlanta, Ga. Unfortunately, due to several spring conflicts, only two students are able to attend. Jeremy Green and Becky Heine will be representing Lee’s Summit North DECA in Atlanta.

DECA internationally recognized program of competitive events uses interviews, tests, role-playing and written project reports to evaluate marketing, management and entrepreneurship skills identified by the nation’s marketing, management and entrepreneurship industry as essential for success in today’s global industry.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Missouri DECA serves more than 8,500 students throughout the state.
