the city

especially

during

a major

holiday

season

didnt

even

discourage

drawing

attention

to his arrival

stopped first

at a church

that should

have been

safe

except

once

inside

he upset

treasurers

tables

chased out

top staff

charging

they had

turned

a place

for all people

to pray

into a thieves

headquarters

went from there

to challenge

prevailing

religious

authority

occupying

political

power

very top

of the

economic

heap

as if

he was

looking

for trouble

and before

a week

in town

he was

dead

why

did he

do that

focus

the mystery

of our

continuing

plot twists

a random

shooter

stalks

the interstate

wounded scars

bleed violence

income gaps

widen

kindness

walks

the streets

daily

compassion

heals

daffodils

bloom

how

brutal

beautiful

life is

both

at once

and we

are part

of it
