LSHS, LSNHS robotics teams win awards at FIRST robotics competition regionals

Lee’s Summit High School Team Driven and Lee’s Summit North High School Broncobots captured awards at FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition Tournaments. LSNHS competed at the FRC Colorado Regional, held April 3-5 in Denver, and LSHS competed at the FRC Bayou Regional, held April 3-5 in Kenner, La.

At the Denver event, LSNHS Broncobots finished the qualification matches undefeated 11-0, but was knocked out in the semi-finals. The LSNHS team earned the Quality Award sponsored by Motorola which “celebrates machine robustness in concept and fabrication” and the Industrial Safety Award sponsored by Underwriters Laboratory which “celebrates the team that progresses beyond safety fundamentals by using innovative ways to eliminate or protect against hazards.”

In addition, Ben Glodowski of LSNHS earned the Underwriters Laboratories Star of the Day Award.

At the Bayou Regional, LSHS Team Driven won the Engineering Inspiration Award, qualifying the team for the World Championship, scheduled at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis April 23-26. Team Driven had a record of 9-1 going into the elimination rounds but was knocked out in the semi-finals.
