Lee’s Summit West girls track team wins fourth straight meet

The Lee’s Summit West girls track and field team is now a perfect four-for-four.

West’s girls won their fourth meet in as many tries April 11 by taking the Kearney Track and Field Classic. The Titans won the meet with 163.5 points, outdistancing conference rival Park Hill South by 70.5 points for the team title.

The Titans other wins this season came at the Ron Ives Invitational at Liberty, the Blue Valley Spring Classic and the Grandview Invitational.

“I am proud of how our girls competed for the first four meets of the season and I think they are making great progress,” West girls track coach Jesse Griffin said. “Every girl continues to improve and is helping our entire team get to another level.”

West’s 1,600 relay team of Elizabeth Nolke, Annika Sisson, Erin Sermons and Jamie Newsome reached another level. The Titans won the event with a time of 3 minutes, 58.15 seconds, which is thought to be the fastest time in Kansas City history at this point of the season. The Titan foursome’s time is now the in Missouri this season, 2 seconds ahead of McClure North.

Sermons also won the 400 in 59.15 and joined Newsome, Sydney Watkins and Nicole Kallenberger in winning the 800 relay in 1:45.45. Kallenberger also won the 300 hurdles (48.04) and the pole vault (11 feet 3 inches).

The Titans also received firsts from Kourtney West in the 800 (2:26.18), Nolke in the 1,600 (5:17.22) and Newsome in the triple jump (36-8.5).

The Titans will compete this week in the Kansas Relays in Lawrence.
