Call for artists: Repurpose newspaper racks for Downtown Lee’s Summit Art Walk

April 23, 2014

Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street is seeking 15 artists to take on the challenge of repurposing newspaper racks into creative works of art for a home or business. A committee will jury the artist proposals and choose 15 of those proposals/artists to receive a newspaper rack. Each creation will be on display for several weeks in the summer throughout Downtown Lee’s Summit, and then auctioned off during Fourth Friday in October, in Downtown Lee’s Summit.

Artists will retain 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of their piece, with 50 percent going to DLSMS, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.

For anyone interested in participating, please put together the following:

1.) Biographical information about you and your work.

2.) What type of medium you generally prefer.

3.) A short proposal explaining what you plan to do with the newspaper rack and, if it would have a new function, what that would be after it is created.

4.) A drawing of your proposal.

Send these documents by May 1 to or to Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, 226 SE Douglas St., Suite 203, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
