Jessica Dennis, a senior at Lee's Summit North High School, was recently selected to receive the 2014 Missouri Award for Outstanding Achievement in Citizenship.

She was selected by a panel of the Advisory Committee on Citizenship Education and is among just 15 seniors in Missouri receiving this award.

The recognition is based on academic achievement, extracurricular leadership and community service. She received a plaque from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and was enrolled in the American Bar Association's Civics and Law Honor Roll.

She also attended an awards luncheon on April 14 in Jefferson City.

Lee's Summit Journal is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news.
