Robert R. Dunning
Robert R. Dunning, “Bob,” born Feb. 2, 1939 to Ray and Carolina Dunning and lifelong resident of Lee’s Summit, passed away on May 2.
Robert graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1957 and received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from UCM Warrensburg in 1964. He proudly served three years in the United States Marine Corps. Robert spent 31 years working for Western Electric/AT&T until his retirement in 1997.
He was an Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 264 and was a dedicated leader in Boy Scouts and the Great Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Robert was the recipient of numerous distinguished Scouting awards and was a Sagamore in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say (Sagamore Big Swift Grey Squirrel). He was extremely proud of his family and his 2 younger brothers and 3 sons who also attained the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 264.
Growing up, Robert participated in many sports in high school and college and enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially fishing trips to Canada and canoeing on Ozark scenic waterways.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Carolina Dunning, and youngest son, Matthew. Robert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet; two brothers George (Meridith), Lee’s Summit, and Harold (Karolyn), Bolivar, Mo.; two sons Mike (Amy) and Mark (Alison), all of Lee’s Summit; and six loving grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was not a great parachuter.
Celebration of life was held at Lee’s Summit Christian Church, May 6. In lieu of flowers, donations to Boy Scout Troop 264, c/o Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church, 114 SE Douglas Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063 or Lee’s Summit Christian Church, 800 NE Tudor Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086 .
