Virginia Louise “Mama Bear” Troumbley

Virginia L. “Mama Bear” Troumbley, of Lee’s Summit, passed away May 5 at John Knox Village House. Virginia was born Jan. 18, 1930 in Monett, Mo. to Rev. Kenneth and Jewell (Roller) Turner. She was a homemaker and well-known for nearly forty years as “Lee’s Summit’s Cake Lady.” Virginia married Bill Troumbley of Fort Ann, N.Y. in 1949. He preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her son, Bill Troumbley, Jr. of Edgewater, Md. in 2008.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennabeth Settle of the home, two grandsons and their wives; Robert and Dana Troumbley of Lee’s Summit, and Michael and Doreen Troumbley of Green Bay, Wis.; six great-grandchildren and her brother, David Turner of Eagle Rock, Mo.

Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. The family will be receiving visitors from 5-7 p.m. on May 7 at Langsford Funeral Home. Virginia’s funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on May 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Floral Hills East cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging donations be made to the John Knox Village House.
