Although Lee’s Summit Police officials have released the name of a man whose body was found at an area hotel, officials continue to investigate the cause of his death.
Authorities have identified the man as 44-year-old Terry P. Voigt of Post Falls, Idaho.
The investigation into Voigt’s death is on-going and investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy from the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death, said LSPD Sgt. Chris Depue.
Voigt’s body was found at approximately 10:00 a.m. May 3 at the Comfort Inn hotel located in the 900 block of S.E. Oldham Parkway.
Officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department were called there on the report of a death. When officers arrived they located Voigt’s body in a room on the third floor of the hotel.
Voigt was staying at the hotel with a group of co-workers while in town for a training seminar in the metro area.
The death investigation is the second high profile inquiry of the year for the Lee’s Summit Police Department, which has not officially investigated a homicide in nearly four years.
Jason K. Starchman, 29, of Kansas City, was killed Feb. 1 after what police officials said was a disturbance between Starchman and someone he knew in the front yard of a home in the 600 block of N.E. Meadow Lane.
The suspect in the case surrendered to police without incident, but the suspect – a man believed to be in his 40s – was subsequently released pending further investigation.
That man has not been charged in connection with Starchman’s death, so the case hasn’t been ruled a homicide.
