The Lee’s Summit Symphony, joined by approximately 50 of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District’s finest young musicians, will present Symphony Showcase 2014 at 3 p.m. May 25 at Helzberg Hall inside the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City.
Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit is the exclusive business sponsor for the event.
In addition to the Lee’s Summit Symphony, the performance will feature orchestra members from Lee’s Summit High School, Lee’s Summit North High School and Lee’s Summit West High School. The concert provides the opportunity for the students to work with the Lee’s Summit Symphony musicians while also performing on the renowned Kauffman stage.
James Farquhar, who won the Lee’s Summit Symphony’s 2014 Young Artist Contest, will perform with the orchestra at the event. The 2014 William R and Lorene Metheny Knight college scholarship winner will also be announced during the concert.
Tickets are $25 and $50 for this special concert. The $25 tickets may be purchased at Lee’s Summit Hy-Vee stores from March 24 through May 18.

Transportation vouchers may be purchased through May 18 at both Hy-Vee stores for $15 for those who wish to ride in comfort on a Kincaid Motor Coach to the concert.
Motor coaches will depart from and return to the St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, leaving for the concert at 1:15 p.m. and departing from the Kauffman Center at
approximately 5:30 p.m.
The Lee’s Summit R-7 Honor Orchestra will perform “Concerto Grosso No. 1, First Movement,” “Symphonie Spirituelle, Second Movement” and “Suite for Strings (O Waly Waly and Dashing Away).”
The Lee’s Summit Symphony will perform “Concerto No. 4 for Violoncello and Orchestra, Op. 65” and “Pictures at an Exhibition.”
The R-7 Honor Orchestra and the Lee’s Summit Symphony will join forces to perform “The Liberty Fanfare” and “America the Beautiful.”
