A father-son dispute ended in gunfire early Friday morning in Lee’s Summit.

According to reports, 40-year-old Chad Beatie and his son, Tyler, were in their garage in the 1700 block of NE Ridgeview Drive when a dispute broke out as they worked on a dirt bike.

Chad Beatie allegedly shot Tyler in the stomach. Tyler was able to call 9-1-1 on his own and was tended to by his girlfriend, Elizabeth Sherman, until paramedics and police arrived.

Chad Beatie surrendered, though police had to obtain a search warrant for the home to retrieve a weapon thought to have been used in the shooting.

Tyler Beatie was transported to an area hospital.

The investigation by the Lee’s Summit Police Department continues.
