Approval of the Summit Place shopping center and its tax incentives returns to the Lee’s Summit City Council this week.
The council at its meeting May 15 is scheduled to finish public hearings and vote on zoning and tax-increment financing for the $72 million project proposed by RED Development.
It will be a night packed with meaty topics that will be interesting to City Hall watchers.
The fate of Arnold Hall and a proposed outdoor stage and festival space at 123 Third St. is on the agenda, plus what the council wants to do about an illegal mural painted on the ‘Bout Thyme Deli downtown.
Summit Place would be about 355,000-square-feet of power retail shopping center, including a 135,000-square-foot anchor store, 182,000-square-feet for junior anchor stores, 13,000-square-feet for shop space and 25,000-square-feet of developmentt on five pad lots. Developers are asking for $18.5 million in TIF assistance, about 16 percent of the total project costs, according to the city.
Important Public Works projects also are on the agenda for council approval including:
• Bids for the annual overlay and sealing program
The Public Works Department proposes a contract with Superior Bowen Asphalt Co. for $2.48 million for overlays and about $1 million contract with Vance Brothers Inc.

• Improving Hook Road
The city would award a bid of nearly $1.7 million to Emery, Sapp & Sons, Inc. to widen Hook Road and regrade drainage ditches so it is two, 12-feet-wide lanes with paved shoulders between Ward Road and Missouri 291. The road will be closed to all traffic during work.
