Arnold Hall a treasure

May 23, 2014

Dear Editor,

When I read that our City Council is considering demolishing Arnold Hall, my heart sank.

That building is the only documented place in Lee’s Summit where President Harry S. Truman ever gave a speech. We should be promoting it as an attraction, not tearing it down to make way for a stage or a few more parking spaces. It makes more sense to do some maintenance to it and use it for its restrooms, a place for performers to change costumes, maybe a small indoor stage for more intimate events, a place for vendor booths or concessions out of those sometimes short but disastrous downpours we often have.

This way it could be useful space in addition to being an historical landmark. I hope our council members, new and old, will realize what a treasure that old building is and keep it for posterity.

Ann Trigg,

Lee’s Summit
