Lee’s Summit Police continue to investigate the shooting of a homeowner injured by gunfire from intruders who tried to burglarize a home.

Lee’s Summit Police Sgt. Chris Depue said no new information has come to light after the early-hour incident June 1.

According to Depue, three suspects entered a home in the 5600 block of N.E. Oaks Ridge Lane through the back door around 4 a.m. There, they were confronted by the homeowner. After a struggle, the man was shot in the leg before the suspects left the scene.

Depue said Lee’s Summit Police are still investigating the crime and gathering information on descriptions of the three suspects. He added investigators are still trying to determine a motive for why the house was targeted for the burglary.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

In other police news, Depue said June 3 that the department is still waiting for the Jackson County Medical Examiner to issue a cause of death in a case involving 44-year-old Terry P. Voigt of Post Falls, Idaho.

Voigt’s body was found at 10 a.m. May 3 at the Comfort Inn hotel in the 900 block of S.E. Oldham Parkway.

Voigt was staying at the hotel with a group of co-workers while in town for a training seminar in the metro area. Police were called there on the report of a death. When officers arrived they located Voigt’s body in a room on the third floor of the hotel.

Depue said the Medical Examiner is waiting on blood/toxicology reports before a cause of death is issued. The toxicology reports normally take 6-8 weeks to return from the lab.
