The family of a 26-year-old Lee’s Summit woman killed in a traffic accident has set up a fundraising page to help the family travel and bury the woman.
Collette M. Moreno, 26, of Lee’s Summit died June 20 after suffering injuries in the accident while on her way to her bachelorette party at the Lake of the Ozarks.
According to a Missouri Highway Patrol crash report, Moreno was a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Ashley M. Theobald, 26, of Kansas City that attempted to pass a 1999 Dodge Ram close to 3 p.m. on Prairie Valley Road at Missouri 5 in Morgan County.
Theobald was driving southbound on M-5 and tried to overtake another vehicle as the Dodge Ram, driven northbound on M-5 by 25-year-old Melvin Garber of Versailles, was cresting a hill. Although Theobald and Garber swerved to miss each other, the Ram struck the passenger side of the Malibu where Moreno was sitting, forcing the Malibu off the left side of the roadway. The Ram traveled off the right side of the roadway and crashed, and both cars were totaled.
According to the crash report, Moreno was transported to University Hospital in Columbia where she was pronounced dead at 5:32 p.m.
Theobald suffered minor injuries, while Garber reported no injuries. The crash report indicates all were wearing seat belts.
According to her Facebook page, Moreno was engaged to be married in July to Jesse Arcobasso of Lee’s Summit. According to information posted by family and friends at youcaring.com, Moreno leaves behind a young son.
The You Caring page set up to raise money for Moreno’s funeral and her family’s travel expenses has raised nearly $9,500 of its stated goal of $13,000. A fund has also been established for Moreno son’s future expenses. Donations can be mailed to the Collette Moreno-Arcobasso Memorial Fund at Bank of the West, 229 SE Topaz Dr., Lee’s Summit, Mo. 64063.
Funeral services for Moreno will be held at 11 a.m. June 25 at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 S.W. 3rd St. in Lee’s Summit.
