Dewey McLelland, age 91, passed away June 21, 2014 in Lee’s Summit. He was born to Dewey McLelland and Lillian Dowers McLelland on October 17, 1922 in Liberal, Kan. As a young boy he grew up in Independence, raised by his mother and step-father, Charles McLelland. After marriage he moved to Blue Springs where he raised his family. For the past 30 years Dewey has been a resident of Lee’s Summit.

Survivors include his brother Landon, his sons Alvie and Bruce, his daughter Gail, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed his life-long career as an over the road truck driver for over 40 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union. In retirement, he drove for the State of Missouri Council of the Blind for 17 years and was Santa Claus for six years. Dewey was a world traveler - took 21 cruises and lived his life to the fullest. He served in the Merchant Marines at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and was an active member of the American Legion Post No. 21 in Independence, and the Moose Lodge No. 10 in Sugar Creek, Mo.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Remembrances/memorials may be made to the American Legion Post No. 21.
