Years Original Pizza owner Vito Mannino said the New York-style pizzeria was located at 905 N.W. Chipman Rd. in Lee’s Summit.

A Lee’s Summit ‘original’ is no longer after land was cleared from the site of the former Original Pizza.

The local chain’s Lee’s Summit location closed in January owner Vito Mannino said after the store was bought to make way for a Mattress Firm store and Vitamin Shoppe.

The location at 905 N.W. Chipman Rd. was officially cleared early the week of June 23 when the building was completely demolished. Original Pizza was a staple for New York-style pizza and pasta for years on the corner of Chipman Road and N.W. Blue Parkway

“We were at the location for about 15 years,” said Mannino, adding Original Pizza has five other locations in the metro area. “We are sad, but if we find another location, we will be back.”

According to the city of Lee’s Summit’s planning and codes administration, the site will house Mattress Firm and Vitamin Shoppe. No official date has been announced for either business’s groundbreaking or grand opening.

In other pizza-related news, Main Slice Pies and Pints in downtown Lee’s Summit is now open. The restaurant opened June 19 in the former space once occupied by Ciao Bella Restaurant at 235 S.E. Main St.
