July 15, 2014

A Lee’s Summit man is dead after the pickup he was driving ran off the road, struck a guardrail and overturned.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol crash report, 61-year-old James C. Davis was driving south on Interstate 35 in Clay County in a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche when he ran off the left side of the road at about 2:15 a.m. July 15.

Davis was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m. by the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office. A 64-year-old male passenger, also from Lee’s Summit, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital in Liberty.

The crash report indicates both Davis and his passenger were wearing seat belts.
