July 16, 2014

Karen McWhirt, Lee’s Summit author of the book “Together We Will Win,” is sponsoring the Great Balls of Fire 5K Run for Testicular Cancer.

The 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. July 20 at 95th Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, Kan.

The Sports Medicine Store will be host at the race location. Registration is $35 for adults and $15 for the Kid’s Fun Run, and can be done online at www.greatballsoffirerun

.comor on race day. Funds raised will be donated to the Testicular Cancer Society and The University of Kansas Cancer Center.

She founded Ian’s Story, a testicular cancer awareness organization after her son lost his battle with the disease in 2005.

Since her son Ian’s death, McWhirt continues to raise awareness of testicular cancer with the book, “Together We Will Win” and the CD titled “Something To Remember” which her son recorded before his testicular cancer diagnosis, and by offering free literature and speaking presentations. McWhirt donates all royalties to benefit cancer charity and gives a free CD with every book purchased. The book is available from the author’s websites and through major online booksellers.
