Consultants working on new facilities plan

July 25, 2014

A makeover for the remaining north side Lea McKeighan Park is starting design, now that a renovation of volleyball courts is complete.

The Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Department last year rebuilt the parks south side, installing new playground features that have become a popular destination for young families. Now the department staff is beginning to master plan the rest of the north side with consultants Bowman, Bowman and Novak, said Steve Casey, who supervises park construction.

His report to the park board at its meeting July 24 said programming is to be independent of the south side, although landscaping and buildings will be similar.

Facilities being considered:

batting cages

outdoor ice rink,

alpine rope challenge course

spray grounds

zip lines

The park already has a skate park next to the new volleyball courts which are at the northeast corner of Douglas Street and Chipman Road.
