Eastland Giving Circle looking to grow

August 7, 2014

Eastland Giving Circle is making a final push to grow membership before awarding its grant for 2014.

“Families in Need” is the focus for the group in 2014. This the fourth year that the group of almost 100 women has joined together to improve the community through their charitable giving.

“As many as we can add, the more money we can give away,” said Nancy Bruns, a board member.

The Eastland Giving Circle was formed in 2010 by a group of charitable and civic-minded women dedicated to making a substantive impact on the well-being of Eastern Jackson County. By giving a small amount individually, they collectively make a big impact, while learning about needs of the community and how to best use charitable dollars to help the people who live there.

“We are ordinary women making an extraordinary impact in our community,” said Jane Stepp, board member. “We appreciate the generosity of all EGC members who are making a difference by giving together. Please consider joining us in our effort to increase the amount of our 2014 grant by growing our membership and consider bringing a friend or neighbor to introduce to our organization.”

Eastland Giving Circle has given almost $87,000 to local non-profit organizations to meet needs in Eastern Jackson County since it’s founding. Grants awarded:

2013 – ReDiscover, Lee’s Summit

2012 – St. Mary’s Manor, Blue Springs

2011 – Drumm Farm Center for Children, Independence

2010 – Hillcrest Transitional Housing, Lee’s Summit

ReDiscover will host a reception 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 in the Play Therapy Room at its facility at 1535 NE Rice Road – the project that benefited from last year’s grant. Guests are invited to attend.

The Grant Committee will review grant proposals from this year’s non-profit applicants in early October and the membership will vote on the top three during October, with the presentation Nov. 12 at The Historic Stanley Event Center.
