Reopening of Colbern Road at Blue Parkway delayed to next month

The reopening date for Colbern Road at Unity Village has slipped to mid-September as a new roundabout is built at the intersection with Blue Parkway

Colbern closed to traffic in March with plans to reopen in August. Progress is slower than expected because AT&T is upgrading its network there and the utility had difficulty getting the fiber material it needed, said Max Weibel, construction manager for Unity Village.

Another project taking longer than expected is complete, except for restoration work.

The city started replacing a waterline on the north side of Chipman Road in January and that is now done except for grading and sodding, said Dena Mezger, interim director of public works.

When the work started west of Pryor Road, the city learned that other utilities weren’t located exactly where engineers believed them to be. So contractors had to “thread” the lines between the other utilities, which made for slow progress, Mezger said.

The contractor will complete the restoration work.

“We’re working to try to speed that along,” Mezger said. “We’re trying to get that wrapped up.”
