Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club

7:15 a.m., Emaline Ballroom – Every Friday morning you are cordially invited to attend the Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary at the Emaline Ballroom, 616 SW Third St. You will have the opportunity to meet our many business members, have breakfast provided by local restaurateurs and hear an interesting program. Fourth Fridays

5-8 p.m., downtown Lee’s Summit – Enjoy art, theatre and music on the fourth Friday of each month from March to October. Participating businesses throughout Downtown will feature cultural arts activities, such as artist receptions and displays, Drink and Draw, author readings and more, for guests to enjoy at no charge throughout the evening.

Cellular Cenes

6- 9:30 p.m., downtown Lee’s Summit – Put your walking shoes on and join the arts community for a street performance featuring a romance for two and a chorus of cell phones on the streets of Downtown Lee’s Summit. We will have two performances, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each beginning at Got Art Gallery. Event starts at Got Art Gallery, located at 18 SW 3rd St, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to show time to check-in.

Music in the Park

6:30 p.m., Howard Station Park – Wheelhouse (American pop rock) and Green River Kings (alternative rock). Enjoy free Friday night concerts from Memorial Day to Labor Day in Howard Station Park in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

Aug. 23

Farmers Market

7 a.m., corner of Second and Douglas streets – Every Wednesday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to sell out, shoppers can get some of the freshest produce in town. For more information, call 816-246-6598.

Speak The Truth Toastmasters

4-5:30 p.m., 2nd & 4th Saturdays, Unity Village Chapel community center – Everyone welcome.

Movie in the Park

7 p.m., Legacy Park Ampitheater, – LSPR presents the showing of "Rudy." Gates open at 7 and movie begins at 8:20 p.m. This is a free event provided by the Park Board. Concessions will be for sale. Please bring chairs and blankets.

Aug. 24

Girls Scout Open House

2-4 p.m., Masonic Lodge, 2409 S State Route 291 – New and returning Girl Scouts will gather for a Back to Girl Scouts Bash filled with games, enrichment activities, face painting, make ‘n takes, pizza snacks and more to kick off the new Girl Scout year. Join the fun and learn more about Girl Scouting, connect with troops in this area and register for the coming school year.

Aug. 25

Linus

1-3 pm, Hobby Lobby, 1015 NE Rice Rd - Fourth Monday of each month. Bring your sewing machine and help make small quilts for Linus to give to children in the hospital. We especially need people willing to quilt finished tops. More info call Dianne @ 816-868-6903.

Lee’s Summit Toastmasters Club

6 p.m., Morningside Business Center, 306 SE 291 Hwy. – The Lee’s Summit Toastmasters Club No. 5317 meets on the second and fourth Mondays each month for those interested in public speaking. Guests are always welcome.

TOPS

8:30 a.m., First Baptist Church, 2 NE Douglas Street – Lee's Summit TOPS club meets every Tuesday morning at 8:30 am at the annex building behind First Baptist Church. Helping Hands of the Willing Workers

1 p.m., Longview Chapel Christian Church, 850 SW Longview Road – Join a weekly group that makes crafts and sews for the benefit of the church. The Helping Hands make items throughout the year to earn money for the building fund and make cheer baskets for the homebound. The group invites anyone looking for fellowship, fun and those who enjoy creating items, to join them. The group furnishes all supplies and is always looking for new ideas. Lee’s Summit Downtown Rotary Club

4:45 p.m., Lee’s Summit Firefighters Union Hall, 322 SE Douglas St. – The club’s mission is to meet the charitable needs of the local community and participate in worldwide humanitarian causes by utilizing the energy and dedication of its members. Restoration Road Recovery group

6:30 p.m., 212 NE Main St. – A Christ based ministry called Restoration Road recovery group that meets to help those who are struggling with addiction, abuse, loss, abandonment, sexual abuse, un-forgiveness and other life destructive situations.

Lee’s Summit Lions Club

7 p.m., Bob Evans Restaurant, 1680 NW Chipman Road.

Fear Not Support Group 

7 p.m., Tuesday evenings, New Summit Presbyterian Church 1800 NE Independence – Fear Not Support Group is a Christ-Centered support group for anxiety and depression. Material is based on the Christian 12 Steps also Anxiety Centre http://www.anxietycentre.com/, also "The Anxiety/Phobia Workbook" by Edmund Bourne.

Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild
