As a young baseball player growing up in Lee’s Summit, Jonathan Aldridge was a die-hard Kansas City Royals fan.
So much so that he spent part of his high school years as a ball boy for the club.
Aldridge, a television producer based out of Florida, was in the area last week filming a new television project titled “Inside Kansas City Show.” Footage included interviews with several current players as well as Royals great George Brett.
Aldridge shot footage of the on-field celebration Sept. 30 after the Royals came back to beat the Oakland A’s in a one-game wild card playoff game.
It proved to be a pivotal moment for the 39-year-old former professional independent baseball player.
“Just to be on that field after 21, 22 years … during a Royals playoff game, it was epic,” Aldridge said. “After the game, players joined me in the celebration and poured champagne on me and I poured champagne on myself.
“Honestly, I just have to thank the Creator for allowing my life to come full circle.”
“Inside Kansas City Show” is an offshoot of several television and multimedia projects produced by Aldridge’s Maverik Productions. The “Inside” shows are filmed in cities such as Orlando, Miami and New York, among others.
The lifestyle program features video, photos and red carpet events with some of the nation’s better-known celebrities speaking with host Aldridge.
Kansas City was the next logical step for the former Lee’s Summit resident.
“It’s my hometown,” Aldridge said.
Aldridge, wearing a snazzy dress shirt, suspenders and a bow tie, also filmed segments with Sporting Kansas City and – believe it or not – players from the St. Louis Cardinals.
“We’re going to let people know how amazing Kansas City and Missouri is,” Aldridge said.
The air date for the premiere of “Inside Kansas City Show” is tentative, Aldridge said, but the plan is to follow the mold of “Inside” franchises in other cities.
“With the ‘Inside Orlando Show’ and the ‘Inside South Florida Show,’ that is kind of our vehicle,” he said. “We’re going to cut and paste what we’ve done in South Florida, Orlando, New York and L.A. in Kansas City.”
The website for “Inside Kansas City Show” is www.insidekansascityshow. The site features photos from Aldridge’s recent local interviews.
