Youth Advisory Council students to collect food items for hungry

May 4, 2016

For the third year in a row the Truman Heartland Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council will be collecting donated food items for area food pantries.

Students collected 10,000 items at one location the first year and collected a total of 30,000 items at three locations last year. This year the drive has expanded to five locations with the goal of collecting 50,000 food items in donations and filling a box truck in 8 hours.

Two of the locations are in Lee’s Summit.

Close to 150 students in the Youth Advisory Council have organized the 8-hour food drive.

If they meet their goal, students will relieve hunger in their communities for five days.
