As a former alderman and long-time resident of Lee’s Summit, I would like for you to consider the following ideas on the upcoming mayoral race.
I am an eighth grade student at Summit Lakes Middle School. I am writing this letter because I hope to persuade the Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Board to change their smoking policy at Legacy Park.
After reading Brian Merrell’s letter to the editor in the Feb. 19 edition of the Journal, I too wanted to share my story in support of Judge Lewis’ re-election.
Guess what Lee Summit residents? If you like fried chicken, we have good news. We don’t have to drive to Mission Kansas to the place that begins with a “S” anymore.
Sometime in the near future, the U.S. Senate may make an important decision on parental rights. This issue has been under the radar for a long time and many may not have even heard of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child.
On Jan. 18, more than 100 citizens joined together to make a difference in Lee’s Summit and surrounding communities by participating in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Community Service.
A traditional theme in elections is “common sense in government” but after the votes are counted the concept is too often shelved until the next election. In a bizarre situation a few years ago I found myself in front of Judge Bill Lewis and in need of some common sense. I served as treasurer for my small homes association then after a few years stepped down and hadn’t given it much thought since.
Charles Payne’s (no relation to me, thank God) liberal loon dialog (Feb. 12 edition of the Journal) that Republicans are unpatriotic for criticizing, “the anointed one” President Obama hit a new low in his ongoing Journal commentaries.
Last Thursday, an article in the Washington Post reported that 67 percent of Americans are, “disgusted with government.”
